Argentina must be thinking they're cursed. Having been drawn in 2002's "Group of Death" with England, Sweden, and Nigeria, and failing to reach the second round, here they are again in 2006's "Group of Death" Group C. Despite this, Argentina's undoubted international quality should be enough to ensure they make it to the second round, although they were also group favourites in 2002 and still failed to make the second round. Just goes to show, you really can't tell what'll happen, so we'll just have to wait and see.

After an eight year absense from the World Cup finals, the Netherlands are back and will be looking for a successful return. They cruised through their European qualifying group without losing a match, and look on track to reach at least the second round. The final Group C match between the Netherlands and Argentina is likely to be decisive in deciding the outcome of Group C, and looks like one of the highlight matches of the whole group stage.

Serbia & Montenegro impressed many during their qualifying campaign where they topped their European qualifying group ahead of Spain. Having only conceded one goal in ten matches in qualifying, their solid defence and overall technical ability puts them in with a chance in this tough Group C.

African first-timers Ivory Coast are the group outsiders, and also performed well in qualifying to finish ahead of Cameroon in their group. Although brimming with talent and enthusiasm, that may not be enough to see them through. Their first Group C match against Argentina will certainly be a tough test to see what they're made of.
