Kaiserslautern - Fritz-Walter-Stadion

Kaiserslautern

Kaiserbrunnen, Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern is a small city with a population of approximately 100, 000 people. It is a "city in the woods" in the midst of the Palatinate Forest, one of Germany's largest forest areas in the South West Bundeslande of Rheinlandpfalz close to the eastern borders of France Belgium and Luxembourg. Traces of the city's past can be found all over the historic town centre. After World War II the Americans used Kaiserslautern and the surrounding region as a major military base. Today, more than 40,000 U.S. soldiers and their families are stationed here, making the military community of Kaiserslautern the largest U.S. forces military base outside of the United States.

Fritz-Walter-Stadion

Fritz-Walter-Stadion, Kaiserslautern

The Fritz-Walter Stadion was first completed in 1920. Built on the Betzenberg mountain, the ground takes its name from West Germany's 1954 FIFA World Cup captain, and is home to FC Kaiserslautern of the Bundesliga.

Reconstruction for the FIFA World Cup was completed in November 2005 at a cost of €48.3 million Euros. The final phase of the project comprised a new floodlight system, extensions to the West and South stands, and reconstruction of the North stand. A media tower and VIP tower will occupy the northern corners of the ground.
